A trip to the Whitsunday Islands will make your Australia trip one to always remember. You will get to see some of the most amazing views, visit some incredible islands, and meet some amazing people.
Sailing the Whitsundays in Australia was one of the highlights of my entire trip to Australia. I could not imagine if I missed going on this sailing trip which I why I am sharing this with you.
To show you how amazing this experience is here is a 3-day itinerary to sail around the Whitsunday Islands in Australia.
This post is all about sailing the Whitsunday Islands Australia.
Where are the Whitsunday Islands?
The Whitsunday Islands are located on the east coast of Australia. They are just off the coast from Airlie Beach which is where many people will stay before and after their sailing trip to the Whitsundays.
How do I visit the Whitsunday Islands?
Most people visit the Whitsunday Islands on an organized tour. You can book a day trip from Airlie Beach to the Whitsunday Islands or if you want to visit many amazing spots you can book multiple-day tours where you sleep overnight on a sailboat. You can book tours from many different companies including GetYourGuide, Sailing with Whitsundays, Tripadvisor, and more.
3-day Whitsunday Islands Australia Itinerary
Day 1 Sailing the Whitsundays
Starting at Airlie Beach you will make your way down to the marina to start your sailing adventure. The tour company we went sailing with was called ProSail. This excursion was a part of our tour up the East Coast of Australia but if you were to do the same sailing tour it would cost around $650 (there are lots of tours out there with a variety of costs). We started off our adventure in the rain so we got to wear very fashionable yellow rain jackets. The day was filled with snorkelling, eating, and having lots of fun.
Day 1 Activities:
- Lunch Near Hook Island
- Snorkelling in Lunchan Bay
- Snorkelling Near Cockatoo Point
- Snack and relax on Langford Sandspit
Day 1 Route:
Day 2 Sailing the Whitsundays
The morning started with a wonderful breakfast that we ate on the top deck of the boat. We got to take in the amazing views of the ocean early in the morning. Once we were all done eating we were off to our first destination.
Day 2 Activities:
- Hill Inlet Lookout
- Turtle Bay
- Whitehaven Beach
- Nara Bay
Day 2 Route:
Day 3 Sailing the Whitsundays
Today was the last day on the boat. It was such an amazing trip so everyone was a little sad it was almost over but we ended off with a great day. We started off the morning with a peaceful breakfast before setting sail to Molle Island National Park. We had a very splashy sail over but it made for good memories.
Day 3 Activities:
- Molle Island National Park
- Balancing Rock
- Spion Kop
Day 3 Route:
This trip was one I will never forget. The whole time it felt like I was in a movie, I was exploring a new country with 20 people I only met a couple of weeks ago and now are friends with, we spent lots of our time on the boat singing and listening to music while sailing around the Whitsunday Islands, who could ask for a better experience. For anyone planning to travel to the East Coast of Australia I highly recommend adding this to your bucket list you won’t regret it. If you have any questions about the experience feel free to comment, I’d love to chat with you guys.
