Bali is such an amazing place to visit with beautiful scenery, super friendly locals, and such an interesting culture. During your trip, I am sure you will visit lots of temples to learn more about the culture in Bali. 

The number of temples can be a bit overwhelming for first-time travellers to Bali, which is why I made a list of the top 5 temples to make it easier to plan your trip.

After visiting all these temples myself during my travels to Bali Indonesia I can say these temples are absolutely AMAZING.

Top 5 Temples in Bali

1. Tanah Lot Temple

About

The Tanah Lot Temple is a famous temple in Bali known for its unique location. Tanah Lot Temple is located on an island just off the mainland therefore it is only accessible by foot during low tide. You can spend a while taking in the beautiful views this temple has to offer but I recommend at least an hour.

Entrance Fee

To enter Tanah Lot Temple you do need to pay an entrance fee. For adults, it costs around 60,000 IDR (around 5 CAD) and for children, the price is 30,000 IDR (around 2 CAD). 

 

2. Goa Gajah Temple

About 

Goa Gajah Temple, also known as the Elephant Case, is another popular temple in Bali. This temple is known for its famous cave with carvings all over it but there also also many other beautiful structures throughout this temple. I would recommend spending around 30 minutes to an hour exploring this amazing spot in Bali.

Entrance Fee

The entrance fee to Goa Gajah costs around 50,000 IDR (around 4 CAD). Also, you must be dressed in proper clothing that covers your knees but there are sarongs to rent at the entrance to Goa Gajah Temple if you need them.

 

3. Pura Tirta Empul

About

Pura Tirta Empul, also known as the Holy Water Temple, is such an amazing experience that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the Balinese culture. This temple holds purification pools in the center. You can learn about the Hindu religion, the ritual they perform at each fountain, and can do it yourself if you would like. It’s an experience you won’t forget.

Entrance Fee

The cost to enter the Pura Tirta Empul is 50,000 IDR (around 4 CAD). For all temples in Bali, you must be wearing clothing that covers your knees and sometimes shoulders, if you do not have a sarong the Holy Water Temple has some you can rent.

 

4. Saraswati Temple

About

Saraswati Temple is another temple located in Ubud. It is an ancient Hindu Temple built in honour of the Hindu Goddess Saraswati. It is located in the city center so you don’t have to drive far to see this beautiful temple. Ubud is really the place to be if you want to see impressive temples, but Ubud also offers so much more.

The Saraswati Temple does not have an entrance fee, like some other temples in Bali, so it is free to enter.

 

5. Goa Giri Putri

About

Goa Giri Putri is a beautiful cave temple located on the island of Nusa Penida. Nusa Penida is a small island off the mainland of Bali, but if you plan to travel here I would highly recommend seeing this temple. This temple was made inside one of the largest caves in Nusa Penida and definitely worth seeing.

To enter Goa Giri Putri there is no set entrance fee but they take donations before you enter so do bring some money to donate before you do in.
