When you are on vacation planning what to see each day can be really exciting but also sometimes overwhelming. If you are like me and want to see everything you can in a destination this post is for you. After visiting Oia Santorini myself I have come up with the best spots first-time travellers to Santorini cannot miss.

You are going to learn about all the must-see places in Oia Santorini, the best Oia Santorini photo spots, the best places to watch the sunset in Oia Santorini, and so much more.

After learning about all these amazing spots in Oia you are going to have the best time exploring Oia for yourself.

This post is all about the 5 must-see places in Oia Santorini you cannot miss.

Must-See Places in Oia Santorini:

1. Blue Domed Church Santorini

Santorini Greece The Blue Domed Church is a VERY popular photo spot in Santorini and for good reason. This lookout gives you a breathtaking view of the white buildings along the side of the island.

Location:

What to Know Before You Go:

Before going to the Blue Domed Church you should be prepared for the crowds of tourists that visit this spot. If you want to avoid the crowds I recommend you come earlier in the day because mid-day will most likely be the most popular time. Also, you should be aware that a lot of the areas surrounding the Blue Domed Church are private property. Lots of people will ignore the signs I recommend everyone be respectful and follow the signs because if I lived in these private areas I wouldn’t want people trespassing.

2. Windwill of Oia

Greece Photography The windmill of Oia is another popular location in Santorini. To get to the windmill you get to walk through beautiful streets of cute white houses. Walking through the streets of Oia is sometimes just as good as some of these popular spots.

Location:

3. Oia Castle

Oia Castle is another popular destination that you should plan to visit during your stay in Santorini. Oia Castle is also known to be a great spot in Santorini to watch the sunset.

Location:

What to Know Before You Go:

Before you go to the Castle of Oia be prepared for the private property/ private area signs. Google Maps took us somewhere that you had to walk through a private area so you might have to disregard what maps say and find another way. If you cannot find your way there I recommend asking someone. There are tons of people walking around Oia you should be able to find someone that can point you in the right direction. Another thing to note before going to Oia Castle for sunset is this is a very popular spot so it will most likely be very crowded. If you really want to go I recommend getting there early to find a good spot. If you are like me and don’t love crowds there are lots of other great sunset spots in Santorini. I watched the sunset in Fira overlooking Santorini Old Harbor and it was beautiful.

4. Ammoudi Bay

Ammoudi Bay is a MUST-SEE! I think Ammoudi Bay was my favourite place in Santorini Greece. The views from the bay are just absolutely breathtaking. The water is bright blue, the rock cliff is red and the houses above are white.

Location:

What to Know Before You Go:

To get to Ammoudi Bay you do have to walk down quite a few steps. To get down is not too hard, since it’s downhill, but to walk up it is a little harder. Make sure you are prepared to walk up and get your sweat on! But if you ask me the views are well worth the walk back up.

5. Chapel of Agios Ioannis

The Chapel of Agios Ioannis is a lesser known spot in Oia so if you want to get away from the crowds of tourists this spot is for you. The Chapel of Agios Ioannis is a little yellow chapel and it is around a 22-minute walk from Ammoudi Bay.

Location:

What to Know Before You Go:

We were a bit surprised to find this chapel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere so don’t be concerned if you are going off the beaten path to find it. If you follow the directions of the map it should take you there but sometimes maps want to mess with us. The map was trying to take us a weird route and there was construction but we could see the yellow church so we followed a little pathway through a grass field to the church. If you are reading this blog post you are more prepared than we were so you should be able to find the church with no problem.
