If it is your first time travelling to Lagos Portugal you are probably wondering what are the best things to do in Lagos, what are the best Lagos beaches to visit, where to stay in Lagos, and more. Do not worry because all these questions and more will be answered in this Lagos Portugal itinerary.

When I travelled to Lagos I remember not being sure how to spend my time but I had the most amazing 3 days in Lagos and wanted to share with you so you too could have an amazing trip to Lagos.

This post is everything you need to know to plan your 3-day Lagos Portugal itinerary.

Best Time to Visit Lagos Portugal

Since Lagos is a beach town right along the water many people plan to visit Lagos to relax on the beach, walk along the Lagos coastline, and do water activities. For this reason, most people plan to visit Lagos Portugal between the months of May to October since it will be the warmest weather within these months. So I highly recommend when you are planning your Lagos Portugal trip to visit in the summer months so you have the opportunity to experience all that Lagos has to offer.

How to Get to Lagos Portugal

Lagos is located on the south coast of Portugal. You can get to Lagos through many modes of transportation including flying and bussing which are the most common ways to travel to Lagos.   Lisbon is the major airport in Portugal so if you are flying internationally most flights will land in Lisbon Airport (LIS). If you want to fly from Lisbon to the south of Portugal you can take another flight to Faro International Airport (FAO) which is around an hour drive away from Lagos. When I am looking up flights I use Google Flights which I highly recommend to find the best deals.   If you are travelling from another country close to Portugal like Spain, a bus is a great way to travel to Lagos. When I was travelling to Lagos I was coming from Seville Spain. The two companies I used when booking buses in Europe were Omio and Flixbus. They are both amazing for getting great deals on travel so I highly recommend you compare the prices of the two to find the best price possible.

Where to Stay in Lagos Portugal

When I travelled to Lagos Portugal I stayed at the Sol A Sol Hostel which was a great place to stay. The hostel was very nice with common areas, a kitchen, beautiful views from the roof, and it was in a great location. There are lots of places to stay in Lagos so if you are a budget backpacker, like me, I highly recommend you check out Hostelworld to find the best hostel for you.

3-day Lagos Portugal Itinerary

Day 1 in Lagos

Walk Around Lagos Old Town

Lagos Portugal aestheticLagos Portugal photography One of the best ways to start your time in a new travel destination is by walking around and getting acquainted with the area. Lagos Portugal Old Town is filled with colourful buildings and cute shops. You can walk around and take photos, shop in some of the stores, get something to eat, or just sit and people-watch. Walking around Lagos Old Town is one of the best ways to start your trip off in Lagos.

Spend Some Time at the Beach

Kayaking in Lagos Lagos is known for its amazing beaches so for your first day in Lagos I recommend spending some time relaxing at one of the many amazing Lagos beaches. Some of the best beaches in Lagos include:
  • Praia do Pinhão
  • Praia Dona Ana
  • Praia do Camilo
  • Praia da Balança
I recommend checking out one of these beaches during your first day in Lagos.

Walk to Ponta da Piedade

Lagos Portugal beachTop things to do in Lagos Portugal   One of my favourite parts of my trip to Lagos Portugal was walking along the coastline from Lagos Old Town to Ponta da Piedade. Along the water in Lagos is a beautiful boardwalk that gives you the most beautiful views of the cliffs, beaches, and water below. To walk from Old Town Lagos to Ponta da Piedade takes around 40 minutes. I loved going on the walk after dinner so on the way back you got to see the sunset.

Day 2 in Lagos

Go Kayaking

Lagos KayakingThings to do in Lagos   Kayaking in Lagos is a MUST when you visit. These kayaking tours will take you along the coastline of Lagos, through the rock formations, into caves, all while telling you about Lagos. This was probably the highlight of my time in Lagos. The tour I went on was called Lagos: Guided Kayak Tour and we booked off of GetYourGuide. There are lots of kayaking tours out there, I know I did LOTS of research, and this is the best one I could find for what was included and the price.

Visit Praia do Cais da Solaria

Lagos Portugal beaches   Praia do Cais da Solaria is one of the closest beaches to Lagos Old Town and just a few steps away from where we started and ended our kayaking tour. Right after we finished our tour we walked straight to this beach to relax. After working hard kayaking for over an hour it’s time to relax on one of Lagos’s lovely beaches and get some sun.

Enjoy Lagos Nightlife

Lagos Portugal foodLagos Portugal restaurant   To end off your second night in Lagos you and your friends should go out and enjoy Lagos nightlife. There are lots of pubs, bars, and clubs around Lagos.   To begin our night we visited Eddies Bar for happy hour. Their happy hour ran from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and you got 2 large cocktails for 6 euros. I thought this was a great deal so check out Eddie’s Bar to see if there are any deals like that during your trip. If you do go to Eddie’s for drinks I recommend trying to sit at a table outside to enjoy the view of Lagos. Then after having a few drinks if you want to go to a bar/club I recommend Bar InsideOut it was lots of fun when I went.

Day 3 in Lagos

Beach Day at Duna Beach

top places in LagosPlaces to visit in Lagos   To end off your final day in Lagos Portugal I recommend visiting Duna Beach. Duna Beach is a bit of a walk from Lagos Old Town, around 20 minutes, but it’s a nice walk along the water. To get to Duna Beach from Old Town Lagos you have to walk over Ponte Elevatoria de Lagos to get to the other side of the water or you can take a water taxi which shortens your walk but will cost you a few euros. Duna Beach is a huge white sand beach with clear blue water. I highly recommend you visit.
That brings us to the end of our 3 days in Lagos Portugal. Lagos has amazing beaches, water activities, and an Old Town that you could walk around and admire for hours. I loved my trip to Lagos and I hope you do as well. I hope this Lagos Portugal itinerary answers any questions you may have had before your Portugal trip. Have an amazing time in Lagos and safe travels!
