Corfu Old Town Travel Guide
Everything You Need to Know Before You Visit Corfu
How do you travel to Corfu?
The two main ways of travelling to Corfu Greece is by fighting or by taking a ferry. For flights, I recommend looking at Google Flights for flights either directly to Corfu or check to see if flying into the mainland of Greece and then flying to Corfu would be cheaper. When it comes to ferries I recommend checking out Ferryscanner. Ferryscanner is the company I booked all of my ferries through when island hopping through Greece and after doing a lot of research they seemed to have the best deals for ferries.Where to Stay When Visiting Corfu?
When I visited Corfu I stayed in Corfu Old Town and had an amazing time. Corfu Old Town is known for its many cobblestone streets and alleyways. I have also heard good things about Palaiokastritsa. Palaiokastritsa is known for its beautiful beaches and is a great place if you like water activities like swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving. When is the best time to visit Corfu?
The best time to visit Corfu Greece is during shoulder season which is during the months of April to May and September to November. These months are the perfect balance of good weather but not crazy touristy and busy. When you visit Greece during peak season during July and August the prices of flights, accommodations and more will be higher and there will be tons of tourists visiting the islands. But if you go during the off season some places are closed and the weather is normally not the best. The shoulder season is the best of both worlds where you get decently warm weather but also don’t have to fight the crowds of tourists everywhere you go.What to do in Corfu Old Town
#1. Wander the Streets and Window Shop in Corfu Old Town
Corfu Old Town is known for its beautiful cobblestone streets. You can spend almost a whole day just wandering up and down these streets window shopping in all the little shops. The Old Town of Corfu is a great spot if you want to get souvenirs from your trip for yourself or friends or family. Not only are there lots of shops in Corfu Old Town but there are also ice cream and gelato places to get a sweet treat while you walk around. And don’t worry if you get hungry because there are tons of restaurants to eat a delicious meal.#2. Visit the Old and New Fortresses
The Old and New Fortresses are another popular spot to visit in Corfu Old Town. The Old Vientian Fortress was built in the 16th century so if you want to learn about the history definitely recommend visiting. It costs 6 euros for adults to visit the Old Fortress. The New Fortress is free to enter and has great views of the Old Town and the Old Fortress. Unfortunately, you cannot go into any of the buildings in the New Fortress.#3. Go Swimming at the Beautiful Corfu Beaches
Corfu Old Town is right along the water and so there are lots of great swimming spots. Go for a swim at one of the beautiful beaches to cool off during your stay in Corfu Old Town.#4. Walk Along the Water and Watch the Sunset
A great way to spend one of your nights in Corfu Old Town is to go for a walk along the water and watch the sunset. Because it is located on the east side of Corfu you won’t see the actual sun set but you can still watch the sky change colours. There is a nice paved path along the water that you can walk along and find a good spot to stop and watch the sunset.#5. Take a Day Trip to Paxos and Antipaxos
When visiting Corfu I went on a day trip to Paxos and Antipaxos and it was one of my favourite days of my entire trip. I am not one to spend money on a tour but I was so happy that I did for this day trip because it was absolutely amazing. This tour is a very full day because it does take around 2-3 hours to get from Corfu to Paxos and Antipaxos but once you get there you spend a few hours going into caves, swimming in the most clear blue water you have seen, and exploring the island. After your time spent at Paxos and Antipaxos, you will make your way to Corfu. It was one of the highlights of my whole trip, 10/10 recommend this tour!
