Planning a road trip around the Southwest of the United States? Planning on visiting Nevada, Utah, and Arizona? Looking for the best campsites? Here is a detailed Southwest USA Campground Guide of everything you will need to know to book the best campsites for your road trip.

Preparing for Your Road Trip Campsites

The Dyrt

To prepare for your road trip I recommend you check out The Dyrt which is a website where you can find hundreds of campsites. I used The Dyrt to find all of my campsites because I was looking for sites with toilets and showers because we were planning lots of hikes. It was super helpful because you can use the filter option on their website to find the perfect campsite for you.

Airalo

Airalo is another website I recently found and it was super helpful for our trip. Airalo sells e-sim cards for a super affordable price. Especially if you are staying in campgrounds a lot of the time you don’t have reliable wifi and when you are driving from place to place having a data plan was super helpful.

Airlo also has an app for your phone to make it even more convenient. Click here if you are interested in getting the mobile app.

Campsite #1: Boulder Beach Campground (Las Vegas)

Location

The Boulder Beach Campsite is right by the Nevada and Arizona border on the Nevada side around a 15-minute drive from the famous Hoover Dam. The campsite is right by the water so you can get nice views from your campsite.

Price

The price of a campsite at Boulder Beach Campground is around $20 USD per night.

Amenities

This campground has paved roads so the campsites are easy to access. Each campsite comes with a picnic table and a fire pit. The Boulder Beach Campground has flush toilets but does not have showers. Overall was a nice campground but if you are wanting showers this site isn’t for you.

Campsite #2: Zion Canyon Campground (Zion Canyon)

Location

The Zion Canyon Campground was in an amazing location, probably the closest you could stay to Zion National Park. It takes around 5 minutes to drive from the campsite to Zion Canyon Visitor Center.

Price

This campsite is a bit more expensive, it cost around $90 USD per night. If you are looking for a super budget friendly campsite this might not be the one for you but it does have great amenities which make up for the price.

Amenities

This campsite is in a great location along the Virgin River and right outside Zion National Park. This campsite also included very clean flush toilets and showers (for which you are given a free shower token at check-in). There is also a swimming pool. Overall this was a really nice campground and I would highly recommend it to those travelling to Zion.

Campsite #3: Ruby’s Inn RV and Campground (Bryce Canyon)

Location

Ruby’s Inn RV Park and Campground is in a great location. It is around a 5-10 minutes drive into Bryce Canyon National Park and there is a shuttle stop right outside the campground that will take you into the park.

Price

The price for this campsite is super affordable especially considering the location and amenities. The cost is around $50 USD per night.

Amenities

Ruby’s Inn RV and Campground sites include a picnic table and fire pit. The campsite also has flush toilets and showers (that don’t require you to pay). Also if you are staying at the campground you are able to use the Inn’s amenities as well which include a pool and more.

Campsite #4: Wonderland RV Park (Capitol Reef)

The view from our campsite

Location

Wonderland RV Park is located just outside Capitol Reef National Park. From Wonderland RV Park to the Capitol Reef Visitor Center it is around a 15-minute drive.

This RV Park is along a highway so when booking your campsite try to book your site on the opposite side of the campground from the highway. We booked the Car Camp, because we just had our campervan and our campsite had a beautiful view of a field with horses, a pony and cows, so we didn’t even notice the highway.

Price

The prices range depending on the type of campsite you get. The prices range from around $30-80 USD per night. We booked the Car Camp and it was $32 per night.

Amenities

This campsite had picnic tables at each campsite. The campground also had flush toilets and showers (which you did not need to pay for).

Campsite #5: Wahweap RV Park and Campground (Page)

Location

Click here for the location of Wahweap Campground

The Wahweap Campground is right by Lake Powell and has great views overlooking the water. The campground is around a 20-minute drive to popular tourist destinations like Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyons.

Price

The prices of campsites at Wahweap Campground range depending on if you need a hookup site (around $90 USD per night) or no hookup site (around $35 USD per night).

Amenities

Wahweap Campground was a little interesting in the setup of their sites, some of the sites required you to pull over to the side of the road and park in front of your campsite. Even though you couldn’t pull your car into the campsite (because there were concrete blocks in the way) the site had a picnic table and fire pit. The campground also had flush toilets and showers (but you had to pay for the showers so make sure you have change with you).

Campsite #6: Mather Campground (Grand Canyon)

Location

Click here for the location of Mather Campground

The Mather Campground is in a wonderful location. It is just a few minute walk to a grocery store and to the shuttle stop (and the shuttles can take you anywhere along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon).

Price

The Mather Campground is super affordable espcially considering its great location and amenities. A campsite at Mather Campground costs around $18 USD per night.

Amenities

At Mather Campground each site has a picnic table and fire pit. The campground also has flush toilets and showers that cost $2.5 USD in quarters to use.

I understand that finding good campsites for your road trip can be difficult and I hope that this campground guide was some help. I know I found The Dyrt super helpful, especially since I was looking for specific amenities, so if you are in the same boat make sure to check them out. Hope you have an amazing road trip around the Southwest of the United States.
