Being in a new country and new city especially a big one like Bangkok it can seem overwhelming with the amount of things to do and sights to see. I understand as I felt this way when visiting Bangkok but I am here to help ease some of that stress.

I spend a few days exploring around the beautiful city of Bangkok Thailand and I want to share with you all of the top places to visit in Bangkok including Bangkok temples, Bangkok palaces, Bangkok markets, and more.

After reading this blog you will be able to relax knowing all the destinations in Bangkok to add to your Bangkok itinerary.

1. Chatuchak Weekend Market

As the name states the Chatuchak Market is only open on weekends so this might not be an option if you are visiting Bangkok during the weekdays but if you are in Bangkok during the weekend you NEED to visit. Chatuchak Weekend Market has everything you could be looking for, clothes, food, souvenirs, Thai massages, and more. This market has over 15,000 stalls so you can spend hours walking around this maze of a market. If you want to get some souvenirs for family, friends or yourself to remember your trip to Thailand this is a great place to do some souvenir shopping.

2. Wat Arun

If you are visiting Bangkok Thailand you NEED to visit Wat Arun. Wat Arun is a beautiful Buddhist temple in Bangkok with amazing architecture and eye catching monuments. You will realize during your visit to Thailand that the Thai people love their big and beautiful temples.

Wat Arun is located along the river across from another Buddhist temple called Wat Pho. To cross the river you can take a shuttle boat across to visit Wat Arun for 5 baht per person.

3. The Grand Palace + Temple of the Emerald Buddha

The Grand Palace is another popular spot to visit in Bangkok. The palace is covered in gold and diamonds making the structure very beautiful. Inside the Grand Palace is another amazing spot to visit which is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Within the Grand Palace group are tons of buildings that are all different but all incredibly stunning.

4. Wat Pho

Wat Pho is another temple in Bangkok located very close to Wat Arun. This temple is most known for holding the reclining Buddha. This Buddha statue is 46 m long which is amazing to see the size of it in person. Not only does Wat Arun hold the famous reclining Buddha but also has many other beautiful and colourful buildings to explore.

5. Lumphini Park

Do you want to see some monitor lizards?? Yes you read that right Lumphini Park which is in the center of Bangkok city have monitor lizards swimming in the pond, walking around near the pond, and even climbing trees around the park. This is not something you see everyday especially in big city like Bangkok. These lizards are wild animals so if you plan to visit Lumphini Park please be respectful of the animals and make sure you are a safe distance from them while observing these amazing animals.

6. Khao San Road

Khao San Road is a famous street in the city center of Bangkok. This street has restaurants/ street food, clothing shops, bars, clubs, and more. If you are feeling crazy when you visit you can even try some interesting food like spiders, snacks, scorpions, and more. If you are wanting to party and experience Bangkok’s nightlife Khao San Road is the place to go.

7. The Golden Mount (Wat Sa Ket Ratchaworamahawihan)

The Golden Mount is a viewpoint that overlooks the city of Bangkok. To reach the lookout over the city you need to walk up 344 steps. I recommend you visit The Golden Mount right before the sunsets as the weather will be the coolest making the walk up easier and you can get a great view of the sun setting at the top. At the top is a temple you can walk around or you can just appreciate the views.

8. Wat Indharawiharn

Wat Intharawihan is another Buddhist temple in Bangkok that houses a huge standing Buddha statue. This Buddha statue stands at 32 meters tall. Usually you can walk to the top of the Buddha statue to get a great view of Bangkok but currently it is under construction and visitors are unable to walk to the top.

9. Khon (Thai classical masked dance) at Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre

Khan is a traditional Thai masked dance that is held at the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre in Bangkok. Through the art of dance these performers tell a story to the audience. If you have time during your stay in Bangkok I recommend you go and see a Khan show. And the best part is if you buy an entrance ticket to the Grand Palace this show is included. They have show running almost every hour and they have shuttles at the exit of the Grand Palace to drive you to Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre. For more information about these shows click here.
