I have done my fair share of research on TikTok, Pinterest, Instagram and more on all the travel essentials everyone tells you to buy for your travels. But I understand trips can be expensive and all your shopping before your trip can add up quickly which is why finding affordable travel essentials on Amazon has been amazing.

Compression Packing Cubes
Compression Packing Cubes are amazing especially if you are backpacking with a small backpack. These packing cubes help you organize your clothes while also saving as much space as possible. These packing cubes have two zippers one to close and one to compress all the air out of the packing cube to flatten and take up as little space as possible. As someone who often overpacks I was able to fit all of my things very comfortably into a 40 L (carry-on size) backpack for two months of travelling.

Toiletry bags are a must for your travels to organize all your toiletries in one area. Hanging toiletry bags can be very helpful if you are staying in accommodations that do not have much counter space. Being able to hang your toiletry bag on a hook, towel rack, or door handle can make getting ready in the morning and ready for bed at night much easier.

Passport/Document Holder
A passport and document holder can be extremely helpful to keep track of all your important documents so they do not get lost or misplaced. Having a document holder is also extremely helpful while navigating an airport so you have your passport, boarding pass, travel itinerary, pen, etc. all accessible. In the document holder I use I can fit my passport, copies of my passport, travel itinerary, boarding passes, cards/cash, pen, and sim card if I get a physical one abroad. Having a document holder keeps me organized and minimizes my stress of losing important documents.

Luggage Tags
A luggage tag goes on your bag with your name, phone number, email and other information in case your luggage gets misplaced or lost and somebody finds it they can try and get it back to you. A luggage tag can also come in handy for those travelling with common bags. For example, I recently visited Greece, Spain, and Portugal with one of my friends and we both had the Osprey Fairview 40l backpack in the colour black, by having a luggage tag we were able to tell whose bag is whose easily.

Shampoo + Conditioner Travel Containers
If you are travelling with only a carry-on bag your liquids cannot be over 100ml. These silicone liquid travel containers are super helpful to hold shampoo, conditioner, and any other liquids you might want to bring on your trip. They are super easy to fill up and they are the perfect size for your carry-on luggage.

Microfiber Towel
Microfiber towels are a MUST when travelling especially when you are travelling with a carry-on with limited space. Microfiber towels fold up extremely small so they do not take as much room in your bags. They also dry much faster than normal towels which means you do not need to pack damp towels that will get smelly and gross. Before I learned about microfiber towels I packed two normal towels in my backpacks and they took up SO MUCH room in my bag. I bring two microfiber towels when travelling, one for showers and one for the beach, this is not necessary but I find it easier so you do not need to wash them as frequently. Microfiber towels have been a game changer for me while travelling.

Toothbrush Cover
When packing you are often packing a variety of toiletries into one bag. A toothbrush cover goes over the top of your toothbrush protecting it from the other items you are packing it with. This is necessary for all travellers but I enjoy it because it keeps my toothbrush clean while travelling from place to place.

Detergent sheets can be extremely helpful for those longer-term travellers. If you are planning a trip for a longer time with limited room in your bag you are going to need to do laundry. By bringing detergent sheets you can save money and do your own laundry. Lots of hostels and Airbnb have washers but you often have to pay for detergent by bringing your own it will often be cheaper. Even if you do not have access to a washer you can throw a detergent sheet in the sink and hand wash your clothes. Another great thing about these detergent sheets is they are a small envelope that takes up very little space in your bag.

A universal travel adapter is a must if you are planning on travelling to many places around the world. You can buy a specific travel adapter for the destination you are travelling to next but if you are planning on travelling to other places in the future getting a universal travel adapter will come in handy. Portable Charger
I’m not sure about anyone else but when I am travelling I need my phone for maps, Google Translate, photos, and more. Also for safety I never want my phone to die while I am out for the day exploring a new place. To make sure this does not happen having a portable charger in your bag or fanny pack is super helpful in case you use your phone a lot one day and it gets low on charge. I just got a new compact portable charger I plan to bring on my next trip.

Electronics Organizer
I am sure I am not the only traveller that has SO MANY cords. I have one for my phone, watch, headphones, portable charger, and e-reader. Having someone to organize and store all these cords is extremely helpful. Before I had an electronics organizer I put all my cords in a ziplock bag when travelling and it would get so messy and tangled. E-reader
Reading on a beach or in a park is such a peaceful thing to do while travelling. Having a book to read on the plane or other forms of transport is always nice. Bringing a book on your trip is always a great idea but a hard copy book is usually heavy and takes up a lot of room in your bags. With an e-reader, it is super easy to transport because it’s lightweight and small, that way you can bring it wherever you go.

Personal Alarm
A personal alarm that you can put on your keychain or in your bag can come in handy at times. Especially if you are a woman travelling abroad having something like this on you can make you feel a little bit safer. I know I have had time while travelling and I am grateful I had an alarm ready to use if necessary. It is super small and portable so it is easy to bring with you wherever you go.

Travel Locks
Locks are super helpful when travelling especially if you are staying in hostels for your accommodations. Since you are sharing a room with other travellers in hostels there is usually a drawer or lock to keep your bags secure but often hostels do not provide locks you need to bring your own. Small locks are normally better because bigger locks sometimes will not fit some hostel lockers. Also, the small locks can come in handy if you want to lock your bags when out and about exploring by locking the zippers together.

LifeStraw water bottles are super helpful if you are travelling to a country that does not have clean tap water.
