Greece is known for destinations like Santorini Greece with its beautiful white buildings lining the island, Athens Greece with its historic buildings and museums, Mykonos Greece for its parties, Crete Greece the big island with a lot to see, and so many more amazing islands.
I went island hopping in Greece for 3 weeks and visited Santorini, Naxos, Crete, Athens, and Corfu and each island has its unique sights that made it amazing.
This Greece bucket list will include all the activities I recommend you add to your Greece travel itinerary, from experiencing them myself.
This post is all about the ultimate Greece bucket list.
8 Activities to Add to Your Greece Bucket List
1. See the Blue Domed Church in Santorini Greece
When you think of Greece, I am sure you picture the iconic Oia Santorini view. This view is looking over the Blue Domed Church surrounded by the many white buildings lining the side of the island. It is just like the photo, even better in my opinion, so I recommend you visit Oia if you are planning a trip to the Greek island of Santorini.
There are tons of other things to see in Oia Santorini, if you are interested you can check out my blog post on the “5 Must-See Places in Oia Santorini You Cannot Miss.“
2. Hike Samaria Gorge in Crete Greece
If you are an outdoors lover like myself hiking the Samaria Gorge in Crete will be one of the highlights of your entire trip to Greece. Samaria Gorge is located on the Southwest side of the Greek island of Crete. It is a 16km hike one way down the mountain, over rivers, and through the gorge. I HIGHLY recommend you add Samaria Gorge to your Greece bucket list.
If you are thinking of hiking Samaria Gorge I recommend you read the post “Everything You Need to Know Before Hiking the Samaria Gorge” to hear all about the things I wish I knew or was grateful I did know before hiking Samaria Gorge.
3. Visit the Acropolis in Athens Greece
Everyone visiting Greece, especially history lovers, must visit Athens Greece and see the Acropolis. You can see the Theater of Dionysus, the Acropolis Museum, the Parthenon, and many other Greek ruins on the Acropolis Hill. You can visit these sights yourself or go on a guided tour. If you are going to see the sights by yourself I recommend getting the Athens Pass. This pass gets you into all the top sights.
If you want to learn more in-depth about the history surrounding these Greek ruins I recommend going on a guided tour. Click here for a tour on GetYourGuide to the Acropolis, Parthenon, and Acropolis Museum.
4. Go on a Boat Tour to Paxos and Anti Paxos from Corfu Greece
One of my favourite activities on our Greek island hopping trip was our boat cruise from Corfu island to Paxos and Anti Paxos. It is a full-day tour where you go through caves, swim in the most beautiful blue water (these photos above are not edited it really was that blue), and get to walk around and explore the island. The boat tour I went on was called “From Corfu: Day Cruise to Paxos, Antipaxos, & the Blue Caves.” This boat cruise was around $60 for a full 10-hour day exploring these amazing islands and beautiful blue water. I highly recommend it, as someone who rarely spends money on tours I was so happy I spent my money on this tour.
5. Visit Ammoudi Bay in Santorini Greece
Ammoudi Bay in Santorini Greece is a must-see! On the north side of the island is the town of Oia which is one of the most popular spots in Santorini. From Oia, there is a walk down to the water of Ammoudi Bay. The walk down is pretty easy but remember you do need to make your way back up. But the views from Ammoudi Bay do make it worth the walk. From Ammoudi Bay you get views of the crystal blue water, colourful buildings along the water, and white buildings lining the cliffs. Ammoudi Bay was one of my favourite spots on Santorini island so I recommend you add this spot to your Greece bucket list.
6. Watch the Sunset in Santorini Greece
Watching the sunset in Santorini Greece is an AMAZING way to end your night. There are multiple spots along the coastline on the west side of the islands to watch the sunset. The view is like nothing you have seen before. You get to see the beautiful white buildings covering the side of the cliff, ferry boats all along the water, and the sunset lighting up the sky with yellow, orange, pink, and red. Add a Santorini sunset to your bucket list.
7. Walk around and Shop in Corfu Old Town
Corfu Old Town is full of cobblestone streets lined with cute shops, cafes, and restaurants. If you want to shop for clothes, jewelry, or souvenirs from your trip Corfu Old Town is where to go. Even if you are not a big shopper window shopping is fun in the Old Town of Corfu. The streets are very picturesque in the Old Town of Corfu. When you are done shopping you can go for a dip or walk along the water since its so close.
If you are planning on visiting Corfu Old Town you should check out my blog “Corfu Old Town Travel Guide.”
8. Eat a gyro (maybe even one every day)
Greek food is AMAZING! I am sure you will eat a ton of Greek dishes throughout your trip to Greece. During your trip, you NEED to eat a gyro. A gyro is a dish with a kind of meat (normally pork, lamb, or chicken), in a pita wrap with vegetables, sauce, and sometimes even fries. If you are like me you will eat gyro multiple times throughout your Greece trip. They are delicious and cheap, sounds like a win-win to me.
That brings us to the end of the ultimate Greece bucket list. Hopefully this bucket list was helpful for anyone planning a trip to Greece. I hope your questions were answered if you were wondering what Greek islands to visit, what activities to do in Greece, what tours to go on and more. I hope you have the most amazing trip to Greece! Safe travels and have the most amazing time.
