Day 1 in Barcelona

Morning (Walking Tour)

Barcelona Barcelona Spain Spend your first morning in Barcelona getting acquainted with the city. In my opinion, the best way to do this is by going on a free walking tour. There are tons of free walking tours in the big cities in Europe with companies like GuruWalks and Freetour. These tours will take you to many of the popular tourist attractions in Barcelona and tell you about its history. I recommend going on a tour that visits the Old Town and New Town so you get to see the Gothic Quarter as well as see some of the amazing Gaudi buildings.   The free walking tour I went on was Barcelona 2 in 1: Old Town + New Town – Gothic to Gaudi.

Afternoon (Walk Around Eixample Dreta and Eixample Esquerra)

Barcelona Spain Itinerary Things to do in Barcelona Spain After you are done with your free walking tour in the morning I recommend you spend your afternoon exploring the districts of Eixample Dreta and Eixample Esquerra. La Sagrada Familia and the Gaudi Houses are in these two districts, including Casa Batllo and Casa Mila. There is an option to go inside the Gaudi Houses but the tickets to enter are a bit expensive so it is totally up to you. I didn’t spend the money to go inside but I have heard that the buildings are very cool to see.

Evening

After you finish your long walk for the day around the beautiful La Sagrada Familia and the super interesting Gaudi houses it is time to relax. I recommend going to a grocery store and picking up your favourite picnic snacks and drinks before heading to Parc del Turo del Putxet. You can sit and enjoy your picnic with beautiful views overlooking the city. If you also have enough snacks to last you until sunset I recommend, it is a great way to end your night.

Day 2 in Barcelona

Morning

Barcelona Itinerary What to do in Barcelona Start your morning by going for a walk down by the Gothic Quarter and down by the water. We started our day visiting the Arco de Triunfo. Yes, I know we are in Barcelona Spain not Paris France but there is one in Barcelona. From there we walked to Parc de la Ciutadella. Parc de la Ciutadella is a large park and you can definitely spend some time wandering around. After you walk around and relax in the park for a bit take a walk along the water before heading to the famous Mercado de La Boqueria. This market is very touristy so it is fun to visit but if you are looking for super affordable food this might not be the best place.

Afternoon

Barcelona travel Park Guell is a MUST when you visit Barcelona Spain. In the afternoon on your second day visiting Barcelona I recommend walking around the beautiful Park Guell. There are so many amazing things to see in this park. Of course, you have the famous lookout with the beautiful tile benches but there is much more to see. Make sure if you want to visit Park Guell to book your tickets in advance as sometimes tickets sell out fast and you don’t want to miss out. Entrance tickets are around $20 CAD but there are other options if you are looking for a guided tour to learn more about the history and story behind the park.

Evening

End your night with a nice dinner out, maybe share some tapas or try Spain’s famous Paella. After your dinner visit Magic Fountain of Montjuic to see the fountain show. Warning that currently the fountain show is not running due to water shortages but check to see if the times you are visiting Barcelona the show is running because it looks amazing.   Hope this 2-day Barcelona Spain Itinerary was helpful for anyone planning their trip to Spain. In such big cities like Barcelona, I understand there are so many things you can see. These are my top picks after visiting Barcelona Spain twice. Have the most amazing trip to Barcelona Spain.
