One of the most popular bucket list destinations, the island of beautiful white and blue buildings, Santorini Greece. When visiting Greece, Santorini is a must see. Here is how to spend the best 2 days in Santorini, Greece.

How to Get to Santorini, Greece

Flying

If you are like me you may not think there is an airport on the very small island of Santorini but there is. When I booked my flight to Santorini I found it on Google Flights. If you are looking for the most affordable flight I would recommend finding the cheapest country in Europe to fly to from where you live and then from there look at flights to Santorini. Flights within Europe can be very affordable. For example, for me, London was the cheapest to fly into and then I flew from London to Santorini.

Ferry

Another very common way to get to Santorini is to take a ferry from another place in Greece. I booked all of my ferries around Greece on Ferry Scanner.

Where to Stay in Santorini, Greece

Fira

In my opinion, the best place to stay in Santorini is Fira. Fira is in the middle of the island so it is easy to explore around the island. Fira is a very beautiful and affordable place to stay on the island. It is great because it is the hub for all the buses around the island. If you are like me and want to travel on a budget and use public transport, staying in Fira will make it super easy to explore the rest of the island.

Oia

Oia is also a popular place to stay in Santorini on the north side of the island. Because Oia is famous for the iconic “Santorini photos” it can be more expensive to stay in this part of Santorini but the views are breathtaking.

Perissa

Perissa is located on the south side of the island and is a great location if you are looking for a budget friendly place to stay. The south side of Santorini is know for its beautiful beaches and Perissa is where the famous black sand beach is located.

How to Get Around in Santorini, Greece

Car

Renting a car is Santorini is a popular way to get around the island. You can find car rentals for a very affordable price especially is you are travelling with a group of people. Kayak has car rentals in Santorini for around $126 CAD for 3 days (the longer you rent for the cheaper the cost is per day).

ATV rental

ATV rentals are another common way travellers get around Santorini. ATV rentals per day are around 40 euros. The price can depend on the time of year you are travelling and the type of ATV you rent. Motor Club Santorini Rentals seem to have pretty affordable prices for ATV rentals.

Bus

If you are like me and don’t feel super comfortable driving in a foreign country and/or want to save some money the bus system in Santorini is great and super affordable. Each bus ticket is around 2 euros, some are a bit more and some are less depending on where you are going. Fira is the main bus hub in Santorini and there are buses that go all over the island.

Day 1 in Santorini, Greece

For your first day in Santorini, I recommend you explore the South side of the island. For me after a long travel day, I wanted a more relaxing first day and the south of Santorini is known for its amazing beaches.

Black Sand Beach

The beautiful Perissa Black Sand Beach in Santorini is gorgeous. Going for a swim in the beautiful blue water is a great way to start off your first day in Santorini.

Walk from Perissa to Akrotiri

If you like to get your exercise in or are just a cheap travellers like me you can go for a beautiful walk from Perissa to Akrotiri. The walk is around 2 hours, which starts along some streets and goes through some farm land. It is a really nice walk and if you split the walk up in two parts by stopping for lunch halfway through it’s even better. If you plan to walk make sure you bring water because it does get very warm.

If you are not wanting to walk don’t worry there are busses that go between Perissa and Akrotiri.

Red Beach

Once you get to Akrotiri I recommend you visit the Red Beach. I bet you can tell from the name and the picture above but this is a beautiful beach surrounded my red cliffs. The walk down is a bit steep but pretty manageable and once you are down you can relax and enjoy the wonderful beach.

Day 2 in Santorini, Greece

During your second day in Santorini I recommend you spend the day explore Oia. Oia is where you see all the famous Greece photos of the beautiful white building on the side of the cliff. There are so many places to see while in Oia.

Blue Dome Church

When you visit Oia you MUST visit this famous spot. The view of the beautiful Blue Dome Church is breathtaking and feels surreal to see it in person after seeing so many photos.

Windmill of Oia

The Windmill of Oia is located on the Northwest point of the island. The windmill is surrounded by so many beautiful houses and you get a great view of the water.

Ammoudi Bay

Ammoudi Bay is another must see in Oia. This bay gives you the most beautiful view of the white houses, with the red cliffs, and beautiful blue water. I could have spent hours just looking at this amazing view from the bay. It is a bit of a walk down but even harder on the way up but if you are relatively active I’m sure you will be able to do it.

Watch Sunset

The best way to end your last day in Santorini, Greece is to watch sunset. Oia is known to be the best spot to watch the sunset but a lot of the lookouts there can get really crowded. We stayed in Fira and the sunset was just as beautiful in Fira.

Additional Days in Santorini, Greece

If you are planning to stay more than 2 days in Santorini, Greece don’t worry there is still lots to do. I recommend checking out some tours if you have extra days. Here are some amazing tours I wish I did if I spent more time in Santorini.

Hope this 2 Day itinerary for Santorini Greece is helpful for anyone planning a trip there soon. This island is absolutely breathtaking and I’m so glad I visited it during my time in Greece.
